Significance: Litha marks the ancient middle of Summer, astronomical beginning of Summer, and the nativity of St. John the Baptist.

The Pagan calendar is based on the Celtic 'Wheel of the Year'. This calendar is closely attuned to the natural rhythms and cycles of nature and the passing seasons and the eight points in the year are seen as having specific significance - these are the Sabbaths.

Litha celebrates the midsummer solstice, the longest day of the year. At mid-summer, the sun god has reached the moment of his greatest strength. Seated on is greenwood throne, he is also lord of the forests. Litha is a time when energies abound and and good time for magick, purification rites and divination. Wiccans consider the goddess to be heavy with pregnancy from the mating at Beltane is honored and the god is approaching fatherhood, is honored, also.
