The foundation systems of Reiki, such as the traditional Usui, make use of the entire spectrum of Reiki energy. The Kava Reiki makes use of a portion of that spectrum, focusing in on a specific aspect of the whole. If traditional Reiki is pictured as the entire rainbow, Kava Reiki would be one color of that rainbow.
You do not need previous reiki experience to receive this attunement. But I would recommend a foundation Reiki, to give you a basic understanding of what Reiki is and the energies involved as well as basics on hands on healing methods and long distance healing methods.
Kava is not to replace whatever traditional medical procedures you might be receiving, but instead works in concert with other healing methods and energy modalities.
